Dung Beetle Books takes your privacy seriously and are committed to protecting your personal information and working with honesty, transparency and integrity. This policy sets out how the company uses the information that you provide us in the sale and transaction of goods and the services we offer.

DATA - WHAT DO WE COLLECT?

Dung Beetle Books collect individual’s data in a number of different ways, for a number of different purposes - for example we will:
1) Ask for contact details when you are making a purchase from us whether through an online purchase or through a presence at bookshops and launch events. Giving us this information allows us to administrate purchases. This would typically include information such as a name, contact details, address (shipping and billing address if different), email, telephone number and payment details.
2) Ask for contact details from to keep you informed about our news, events, or any Dung Beetle Books initiatives. This would typically be an email address. This includes any data gathered through the website of Miriam Elia at www.miriamelia.co.uk
3) Ask for consent to collect cookies from the website to allow Dung Beetle Books to use google analytics and Shopify customer data.


WHY DO WE COLLECT THIS DATA?

Dung Beetle Books and its subsidiary website www.miriamelia.co.uk collect this data for a number of specific reasons, which are as follows:

1) We ask for contact details so that we can contact you if there is an issue with your order or purchase.
2) We ask for your contact details so that we can occasionally contact you via email with news about our products or the work of Miriam Elia
3) We analyse information from buyers to see who and where are purchasers are and examiner trends and responses to our products and marketing activities so that we can put more of what you like and enjoy into the world.
4) We use google analytics to help us understand who is engaging with our website and in what way, in order to improve its functionality and our work


PRIVACY AND THE LAW

The Law on Data Protection is derived from various pieces of legislation including the Data Protection Act and the General Data Protection Regulation or GDPR, to which all organisations based in the UK are compliant as of May 2018. The GDPR states that personal data can only be ‘processed’ (i.e. collected, stored and analysed) if there is a legal ground to do so. 1) Consent: where you have given us clear consent for us to process your personal data for a specific purpose – i.e. to sign up to a mailing list either at www.dungbeetlebooks.com or the website of artist Miriam Elia.

Dung Beetle Books have always asked for your consent before we have communicated with you and from May 2018, this will be specific and time-based – i.e. we will only hold it for a stated period of time. NEW CUSTOMERS

From May 2018 new customers will be asked to opt-in to receiving communications from us for the next five years. 


HOW LONG WILL WE HOLD YOUR DATA FOR?

If you have opted in to receive information about Dung Beetle Books products and Miriam Elia's work either through the Dung Beetle Books or Miriam Elia websites, we will ask for your consent to hold your data. At any time you can ask is to remove our communication with you, receiving information from Dung Beetle Books is always your choice. If you don’t think we have got the level of communication quite right for you, you can tell us to change your preferences or ask us to remove you from our database permanently by emailing info@dungbeetlebooks.com and we will act on your wishes within 14 days.

Dung Beetle Books are a Data Controller – this means that the company will collect data from customers and those interested in the work of Miriam Elia. the company will analyse its data to understand how well we are reaching people interested in our work and readers of our titles. We do not share any analysis of our data with any third parties.

Dung Beetle Books uses Shopify and Google Analytics to collect information about visitor patterns on both www.dungbeetlebooks.com and www.miriamelia.co.uk

This Analytics data is not tied to personally identifiable information - your personal information such as your name and address is not stored and therefore cannot be used to identify who you are. These are cookies set by external websites whose services are used on Dung Beetle Books and Miriam Elia's websites. Cookies of this type are the sharing buttons across the site, which allow visitors to share content from either of these  websites onto social networks such as Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.

Third Party Cookies are currently set by Twitter, Facebook, Google+, Instagram and Pinterest if you share content from any of the Dung Beetle Books or Miriam Elia websites to these platforms. EMAILS

The majority of the emails that Dung Beetle Books sends are not tracked at all. However occasionally, we will send out an email with news about what is coming up and these will track whether the user has opened and clicked on the email. We do not use this information at a personal level, rather we use it to understand ‘open and click’ rates on our emails to try and improve them. If you want to be sure that none of your email activity is tracked, then you should opt out of our emails which you can do via the unsubscribe link at the bottom of every email that is sent.


WEB SECURITY

All purchases made on this site are secure. No one can access your credit card details via the internet.


HOW WE PROCESS YOUR PAYMENTS

When you have completed your purchase, your web browser will be connected directly to a secure server. You can see that the connection is secure by looking at the padlock or key icon in the bottom left hand corner of your browser. Your browser may also alert you to the fact that you are connecting to a secure server, and if so, it will also tell you when you are closing the connection once you have donated. PROTOCOL IN THE EVENT OF A DATA BREACH

In the event of a significant data breach, Dung Beetle Books will notify the ICO within 72 hours and notify any individuals affected . A ‘significant breach’ would be an incident where individuals’ data was released into the public domain and there was a serious risk to their privacy.

RIGHT TO BE FORGOTTEN
Finally, Dung Beetle Books, will be happy to provide you with all the data that we hold on you and to delete it from our records if requested. If you wish to see or delete the data that we hold on you, we will need to see an original piece of primary identification such as a passport or driving license before we will be able to release the information.
